Advantages of Teaching Religion Lessons in Schools Religion lessons in Indonesian schools have become a compulsory subject to this day, bearing in mind that our country is a religious country because of the 1st precept, namely "the one and only God". However, unfortunately some people think that religious studies make some people use religion as a tool of violence/weapon. Eliminating religion lesson doesn't stop religious violence. In fact, it helps students to clear the misunderstanding of what they are actually taught in their holy books. There are two verses from two different religions about it. “If two parties among the believers fall into a quarrel, make you peace between them with justice and be fair. For God loves those who are fair. The believers are but a single brotherhood; so make peace between your brothers." (Qur’an 49:9-10, cited in Abu-Nimer, 2010, p.83).
